What I’ve discovered over time is that there is real power in the ability to build rapport and create long-lasting bonds through effective business networking. There was a time when I felt networking was tough although I knew the utility in business networking, I ignored it. I am sure many of us go through this phase.
Although many of us don’t enjoy networking it is an effective strategy for growing a business. It allows us to met other like minded entrepreneurs who may be a great fit to work together. It may be quit daunting to walk into a room where you don’t know anyone and you are suppose to mix and mingle with everyone. There are so many clients of mine who tell me they don’t like networking, you may not love networking but it is necessary for your business.

I am going to share 3 easy tips to help you network like a celebrity.
1. Shift your Mindset: Next time you go to a networking event act as though you are the host of the event, by doing this you are going to make yourself more
comfortable…WHY because if you are the host of the event it becomes your job to
make others welcome you need to talk to them. Imagine if its your party what would you do? If you don’t want to go to a big group stay in the room and find someone else who might look more uncomfortable then you. Begin conversation with them they are going to love it if you walked up to them and you never know you might make this a really good conversation. So shift your mindset from a participant to a HOST.
2. Make the Conversation about them: Let me ask you what is everyone favorite topic…it’s themselves, so when you start talking to people may be they ask “what do you do” sure tell them what you do but then shift it to asking more about them. People like to talk about themselves make the conversation all about them. It does not have to be strictly business talk to begin with. Talk to them how they got to the event, who else do they they know there, are they a part of the organizing team, you can even compliment them on something you recognise about them e.g the glasses, the bag etc., but remember nothing on the looks please. This will help you to put the person and yourself at easy and then communication will go naturally, after a while when you have build a rapport get to business.
3. Follow Up: Most people go for networking event take a lot of business cards and don’t do anything with them, or the put it into their mailing list and create junk mails for people who might not be even interested in looking at their mails. The better way to do this is to send a personal note over a mail referring to your meeting in the network event. Now that you know a person face to face connect with them on Social media such as LetzGain, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc this way you just get to know a little more about the person. You can even google them…Yes google them, may be they have appeared in some article or they have written some article make it a point to go and like it you can show them some acknowledgement by liking, commenting or sharing the same. Find some unique way to connect with the person further so that you stand out from the rest of the people who could have met them at the event.

Networking isn’t always fun but it is good for business. It is such an incredible way to build your business, meet new people, collaborate and if not they might be able to help you in some other way or may be you can provide value in their life as well.

So get out their and start networking.

“Bill, thank you. The world’s a better place,” Jobs told Gates after the Microsoft exec agreed to make a $150 million investment in Apple.

All of this was pre-iPod and even pre-iMac. At the time, Apple was busily bleeding money and was on the verge of bankruptcy. Shortly after, Apple began the meteoric rise that has sustained it for decades. From 1998 on, Apple launched a string of successes: iMac, iBook, iPod, iTunes Store, and eventually iPhone and iPad.

Here is summary from Steve Jobs 10 years after the event

“Apple was in very serious trouble,” said Jobs. “And what was really clear was that if the game was a zero-sum game where for Apple to win, Microsoft had to lose, then Apple was going to lose.

“There were too many people at Apple and in the Apple ecosystem playing [that] game,” he explained. “And it was clear that you didn’t have to play that game, because Apple wasn’t going to beat Microsoft.

“Apple didn’t have to beat Microsoft. Apple had to remember who Apple was because they’d forgotten who Apple was.

For Microsoft, the investment meant propping up one of its greatest competitors, but it was also a new business opportunity.

Owing to the British lifestyle during the industrial revolution, tea culture has become an important part of a workplace. A tea break at a corporate office is a much-needed break employees take to unburden themselves from the stresses of contemporary life. GingerCup as a cup branding agency, we executed a large number of campaigns. Every campaign was always looked at as an opportunity to advertise a brand’s objective. We saw it as a moment when facility managers would use our paper cups for its intended purpose and nothing beyond that. Essentially we thought that we were saving the money of buying paper cups for them.

However, after almost being 2 years in the market, we received the most important feedback that completely changed the marketing and sales pitch for us! Having interacted with a large number of people from different walks of life during our campaigns, we made some key observations and learnings.

We believe that in a business, a client’s opinion is paramount. You need to listen to them carefully and network with them as much as you can. If you are able to strike the right chords within the target group, half the battle is won. Listening to our clients definitely scripted our journey to success.

How to get Highest Level of Motivation?

  • Will I be able to do what I am trying to do ?

When we are not able to answer this question we are lacking in self belief and hence we have to resolve this by understanding why self belief is lacking and how we can improve it.

 

  • Will results come from actions ?

When we are not able to answer this question we are doubting the utility of the actions, one way we can answer this question is by comparing results of others who performed the same actions and what results it produced.

  • Do the results matter to me?

Sometimes results are not meaningful for us and that is single biggest reason for us not taking up certain tasks. For example some students may not value high grades that much and hence do not want to spend more time on studies. The way to correct it is by understanding the benefit which we may be able to connect with, this will completely change motivation levels. For example a student may not be interested in studying accounting to get high grades, but she may be interested in studying accounting if it is fun and helps her prepare for entrepreneurship.
